Overview of Wipe Free Space of a Drive wizard
On the first screen of the wizard, select the drives that you want to clean.
For each drive, the window shows the type of drive, the size of the drive, and the date and time it was last cleaned.
Select the one or more drives that you want to clean.
To select one drive, select its check box
To select all drives shown, choose Select all from the Select menu.
To clear all selections, click Select none from the Select menu.
Note: DriveScrubber cannot wipe recordable CDs (CD-R) because they write-protect after the first write. DriveScrubber can, however, wipe rewritable CDs (CD-RW).
Optionally, you can analyze the system to see how much space is currently allocated to deleted files. See Analyze drives below for instruction.
When you are finished making your selections, click Next to configure overwrite options.
You can analyze your computer to see how much space is currently allocated to deleted files. This shows you the current level of risk that your computer is exposed to, and helps you decide whether you want to continue with the wiping.
To select a specific drive to analyze, click the Analyze Now link next to the drive.
To analyze all drives, click Analyze All from the menu.
Note: If you want to stop the analysis before it is completed, click Cancel from the menu.
When the analysis is complete, the following information displays in a pie chart and a list:
Used space. The amount of space on the drive that is not free - it has existing files and data. This data will not be affected or touched at all by the wiping process.
Unsafe deleted files. The amount of space on the drive that is free and has been allocated to deleted data. This deleted data can be recovered using undelete software. This data will be wiped from the drive.
Unused free space. The amount of space on the drive that is free, but has not been allocated to deleted data. However, if you have used your computer for a long time without cleaning it with DriveScrubber, this space may contain some deleted remnants.
Note: As a default, this wizard will not wipe the Unused free space, but you can configure it to do so by selecting the "Perform deep clean (may take several hours to complete)" check box on the next Configure Options screen.
If you want to restart the analysis from the beginning, click Refresh from the menu. Any existing analysis information will be cleared.
