Create Your Own PowerSense Modes

Variations of PowerSense™ Ultra Performance and Endurance modes are built into LiveBoost, suited specifically to editing, gaming, graphic design and other activities that demand different degrees of system speed and stamina. You can create your own customized versions of these app-specific modes, using the wizard to select:

    • Trigger programs

    • Power plan

  • Background processes to disable

To create a custom PowerSense mode:

    1. Open System Mechanic, click LiveBoost, then Manage PowerSense.

    1. Under Custom Modes, click Create New. This opens the custom mode creation wizard. The five tabs walk you through building your own custom PowerSense mode.

    1. Getting Started contains an overview of this process. You can familiarize yourself with the steps here, or simply click Next.

    1. Triggers are any apps that, when launched, will initiate the switch to this new custom PowerSense mode. In this tab you can decide if you want to designate a trigger as a launcher of other apps. Check the box next to Trigger activates other programs if this is the case.

    1. Check the box next to as many programs as you want to trigger your new PowerSense mode. Or, you may click Browse to choose from a complete list of programs in Windows File Explorer.

Bonus Tip: The trigger list is made up of all the apps you are currently running, making it convenient to first run the app you want to use as a trigger, then open the custom mode creation wizard so it will appear right in the trigger list.

    1. Click Next when you are finished selecting trigger apps.

    1. The Power Plan tab shows the list of available power plans on your PC. iolo recommends choosing either Ultra Performance or Endurance, depending on your need for speed or stamina. Also included here are the three Windows power plans.

    1. Click Next to choose Services to Disable, if you are confident that you know what you will not need running when this custom PowerSense mode is launched.

    1. Click Next to name your PowerSense mode. Type a name, then click Save. You should see your new mode in the Custom Modes section of Manage PowerSense.

    1. At any time you may Edit, Delete or see Details about your mode by clicking on the associated links.

Why Create Custom PowerSense Modes

One reason you may want to create your own PowerSense mode is if you have a favorite program for video editing, programming or graphic design that you do not see listed in the Built-In Modes trigger lists.

The app could be rare, or perhaps discontinued but still favored by you—don’t underestimate the number of Avid Xpress or GarageBand for Windows users that are out there. Another reason to custom build a mode is if you would like to automatically trigger Gaming mode when you launch a specific desktop game, rather than a general gaming platform (launcher) like Steam.

Creating your own PowerSense modes is a great way to further customize your machine to suit your needs, and along the way it is also an up-close look at some of the variables System Mechanic adjusts in the innovative efforts to always make your PC go faster.
